Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale by Holly Black

SUMMARY (Amazon)

Sixteen-year-old Kaye is a modern nomad. Fierce and independent, she travels from city to city with her mother's rock band until an ominous attack forces Kaye back to her childhood home. There, amid the industrial, blue-collar New Jersey backdrop, Kaye soon finds herself an unwilling pawn in an ancient power struggle between two rival faerie kingdoms -- a struggle that could very well mean her death.

Tithe seemed really interesting from the summary. I haven't read too many fey novels so I was excited to get my hands on this one and sink into the world of a modern day faerie tale.

Holly makes us fall in love with Kaye, a girl who has had to grow up way before her time. But the way Kaye is given to us, makes us not want to PITY her but instead to ROOT for her. She is just a super cool chick who turns out to be a faerie.

Sometimes I got confused reading this. Things seemed to happen really fast and there were some scenes that just seemed rushed. However, this was still a great book to read and while the subject matter was a little dark and dreary, I really enjoyed it.

This is an older book, it came out a decade ago, but with the renewed interest that so many have into paranormal, I hope y'all pick up Tithe and give it a go.
